EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT GROUPS
We offer a number of educational support groups, which involve open dialogue, peer support and are guided by CMHA professionals. Some sessions are geared towards those dealing with serious mental illness, while others focus on how to manage the everyday challenges that everyone faces. Most are conducted in our CMHA boardroom and run from six to 10 weeks. Contact us for more information on any of the groups listed below.
Depression Support Group
Learn about the types of depression, common symptoms, coping skills. One session will feature a pharmacist presenting information on anti-depressant medication.
8 weeks
Assertiveness Training
Learn the differences between aggressive, passive and assertive personalities. Practise conflict management and other assertive skills.
8 weeks
Health and Empowering Relationships
Learn how to define and maintain healthy boundaries, clear communication and recognition of boundary violations.
8 weeks
Assertiveness Refresher
Open only to those who have completed the Assertive Training Course. Goal is to build on previous instruction.
6 weeks
Grief Support
A general group session for anyone dealing with the death of a loved one
6 weeks
Anxiety Management
Defining, dealing with anxieties and phobias, as well as understanding the causes – and remedies – for worry and panic. Relaxation techniques will also be explored
Six weeks
Suicide Bereavement
4 weeks
Family Support
An open, interactive, formal group of family members and caregivers who meet to learn together and share their experiences about their own journey to recovery.
Lynx Family Support
Same as above but geared to family members/caregivers of someone in LYNX program.
4th Tuesday of each month
Lynx Family Education
An intensive education program for family members/caregivers of someone in LYNX program
6 weeks
Clutter Series
A closed skills building group for those seeking to add order to their lives by eliminating clutter, using group exercises.
